Final Exam
I feel that I grew as an artist through my still life work. My first still life piece I used graphite pencils to create my artwork. I created the image by combining different images I took of the still life at different angles. Drawing still life and shading were completely new to me so creating this project was harder for me.The application and shading of my first drawing were mostly to dark and to light, there was not a lot of middle ground in the image which made it hard to define the figures I used in the image. In my more recent still life of the avocado I was able to more successfully create shading and form for the image. I was also able to more successfully use color, I used to be very unsure about using colors in my images as I hadn't had a lot of practice with it. Also over time, creating still life allowed me to become more open to using different mediums for each of my drawings. I still believe I do need more practice on both subject matters but I have found that I have improved in both areas.
I felt that the mini lesson in chalk and prismacolors was most helpful with completing my final project of each subject. I feel that the instruction given to me in the mini lessons was enough to lead me to success in my final pieces. The mini lesson in chalk helped me tremendously because I had little to no experience in chalk. The mini lesson also helped me understand the proper way to blend chalk since it takes much more effort to because of the type of medium. It was very helpful because without learning how to shade or blend the chalk properly, it would have been much harder for me to figure out how to properly blend and shade with chalk to create a piece of art that clearly portrayed the still lifes form. I found the prismacolor mini lesson to be very helpful as well, for I did not have much experience in the subject matter as well. The lesson helped me alot in my final project because it taught me how to properly blend prismacolors and how they were different from normal colored pencils. This especially helped in my final project because I had to use a lot of blending in my image to create a the natural color of the avocado and seed. It also taught me how saturated you can make an image using prismacolor and the different techniques you can use to create that saturated look.
I found that my favorite medium to work with was prismacolor. This was my favorite medium to use because I love how saturated the color in the pencils are. The saturation helps me create more creative artwork than with normal colored pencils. I also loved how well the colors blend together to create a perfect ombre of color. This was also my favorite medium to use because I was able to create the exact colors I wanted through blending unlike any other mediums I used throughout the semester. I've also found that coloring with prismas help the color flow together better with the shape of the object that I am creating without making any noticeable change in blending or shading. Prismacolors have more intense colors than many of the other mediums. Prismacolors are also my favorite medium because they aren't messy.
I felt that my least successful project was my printmaking project. I feel that this was my worst because the design was very 2D and not very detailed at all. All of the paint blobbed together so it was hard to make out the images. Also the ink was not lined up so all the images came out blurry. I wasn't able to fully carve out some places on the silicon which left many marks on the paper. If i could redo this project i would create a much more detailed image. I would also do better at laying the images proportionally across the page to lessen the negative space on the page. I would also pick better color choices that flowed together better to create the natural colors of the landscape. I would also try to carve out the silicon better to make less marks on the page.
